Spirit Tablets are SWEET!

Sunday was a good day, too! I put on my tourist cap and went to a palace and a Buddhist temple. The palace was called Jongmyo and it was the site of the Joeseon dynasty (1392-1910), Korea's last monarchy. The palace was pretty much a shrine for the "spirit tablets" of its kings and queens that was first constructed in 1394. The tablets look like small white grave stones and have Korean characters (letters) on them. I would assume that the Korean characters are the names of the king or queen. The spirit tablets were created to memorialize the king or queen. The Joeseon people would perform rites (religious ceremonies) every season to bring peace to the souls of the deceased rulers and seek peace and prosperity for their nation. The ceremony still takes place every May, which shows how Confucianism is still very much alive in Korea. The palace contains about 83 tablets inside the buildings, but they are closed off to the public. I wonder if they will make a spirit tablet for me? Maybe if I donate all my "riches" to the palace? I'm SURE they would. I can add my beautiful paintings to the art gallery.
